2010 Season

Good day web folk.

On Thurs 4th March 2010 we had our AGM and following this, happily we are able to confirm that we will have 3 teams, one in the Darlington And District League, one in the Sherwoods League, and one in the Durham And District League.

This is excellent news after a worrying winter.  May I wish everyone a happy and successful season.

I would like to thank Scott Morland for his hard work over the last few years as secretary, and Sandra Hopkins for her treasury work.  And wish good luck to the new committee.

Finally I would like to add some sad news, and pay respect to Ken Wood who sadly passed away during the close season.  Ken was a kind and friendly man, team mate, and friend.  And he will be sorely missed by all of us at South Park.

South Park Green Opens Monday

This Monday 20th April the green opens, we hope to see as many members as possible practicing for the new league season.
We wish everyone a successful year and also hope to make new friends and enemies along the way!

Anyone wishing to join in the fun our official practice night is Thursday this week 6.00pm at South Park, al is welcome in a bid to always increase membership.

All members please remember to keep our un-appreciative and unresponsive Darlington Borough Council happy don’t forget to buy your season tickets from the Dolphin Centre.

So hopefully we will have plenty to celebrate this year and Blackhall will have plenty to improve on!!

Your Club Needs You!!

Are you interested in writing for South Park Bowls Club, if so then your club needs you. We need people to write about their experience in playing for the club and its competitions. If you feel that you might have something to say, then click the register tab above to register for this site, once you’ve done that click the contact us link to let us know and we will get you up and running.

New Season

As we head into a new season, the updates will soon come again thick and fast, with updates on Nationals and our first leageu fixtures.

After tonight we will have the complete set of fixtures and can look forward to our first games at the end of April.

The EBA competitions have been drawn and most the fixtures have been fairly kind with many of our opposition coming from the Stockton area. If we perform we have very good chances of progressing in these this year.

Fixtures and competition news will be printed very soon.

Works League Meeting

To all members, we hope to have fixture lists etc from the Works leageu soon as the AGM is Wed 11th March.

Our own AGM has been significantly delayed cos the secretary can’t be arsed, but never fear we will have it early April to get the season started!

Website Updates

As the new year arrives the website will updated again ready for the new season. As we get rid of the miserable Indoor season we look forward to stabilizing the club in its current format.

Our aims are to try and achieve 4 teams running at maximum number for the year with hopefully the return of some key players.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Presentation Evening

A week on saturday sees our presentation evening, we look forward to a good night with Rock Solid being our entertainment.

Many of our members are going in fancy dress and a turnout of around 30 people is expected.

We hope its a good night for all who come.

Millenium Cup Win

The team had a good night of success away at Belmont last night in the Durham League Handicap Knock-Out.
We held a 27-26 lead before the start of play and then had 2 out of 4 rinks win to take us through to the 2nd round where we will face 1st Division outfit EverReady Craghead. This will be a very difficult fixture but with a 26 shot start it will be a good opportunity to again progress.

Update

Another 5-0 drubbing this time at the hands of Shildon Town has surely doomed South Park to the District Leagues Division 2 even at this early stage of the season. Again one man down but one highlight was the debut from Paul Kelly.

Competitions this week have seen Keith Burton beat Barry Hopkins Jnr in the 4 wood EBA Singles and both of them losing in the pairs to the Northams. Andy Bell, Scott and Bill Morland were unlucky in the triples losing to Andy Kirtland by 3 shots at Stockton despite being the better team on the night. Scott and Bill were then beaten in the pairs as they couldn’t make a good start pay against Liam Macey and Craig Northam.
Despite these results we wish all our district members luck in the county stages of these competitions.

In the Durham League competitions Scott, Bill and Sandra Hopkins won their first game in the Hospital Cup against Peter Wilkinson rink.

We now look forward to our home matches tonight against Whessoe and tomorrow afternoon against Peterlee. Then Monday night see our debut in the Millenium Cup away at Belmont where a win would see us with a 25 shot advantage againt EverREady Craghead in Round 2. Lets get stuck in!!

Two EBA Teams Scrape By!

We made progress in the EBA Fours and Triples last night seeing both teams into the District Finals.

Bill, Scott Morland and Andy Bell scraped by on an extra end despite losing most of the game beating Andrew Parnell, Bob Oliver and Eric Fordy from Stockton BC.

Barry Hopkins Snr & Jnr, Ken Wood and KEith Burton beat Paul Frasers Hundens rink on the last end in the Fours.

Tonight we face a tricky tie away to Spennymoor B, a bottom of the table clash, we are hoping for a shock win with perfect performances from our newcomers Carlos Bozeate and Jonathan Handley.
