2010 Season

Good day web folk. On Thurs 4th March 2010 we had our AGM and following this, happily we are able to confirm that we will have 3 teams, one in the Darlington And District League, one in the Sherwoods League, and one in the Durham And District League. This is excellent news after a worrying winter.  May [...]

2 Important Meetings Next Week

Next Week is an improtant week for our bowls club.

Monday Night sees us in a Secretaries meeting for the Darlington and District League to discuss action taken against us from our away fixture with Leeholme this year.
We hope a sensible resolution can be agreed. We are battling for our 5 point deduction to be recinded and that the match takes place as soon as possible.

Tuesday night sees us in a meeting with Parkside Ladies which is a big step for us. We look to keep all parties happy in amalgamating the clubs and officially have PArkside LAdies as part of South Park BC.

Wrong bias again!

Its official we are currently discussing Bill Morlands future at the club and negotiating a fee with the RA after he put the wrong bias on for the 2nd time this season.
Sadly it was all too costly as Graham Peacock beat him 21-11 in the District League Champion of Champions Final.
Despite a come back after being 13-3 down he was unable to keep this rhythm long enough to keep hold of the title he won alst year.

Another major forward step for DSPBC

After a week of controversy (what else is new!) meaning our Division 1 status lies in the hands of our next 3 games and a AGM discussion we finally have good news to report.

Previously we have shown that we want South Park BC to improve on a yearly basis as a structure and this week has seen another possible major step.

Parkside Ladies were approached regarding them uniting with our club. They have struggled in recent years to put out a full team regularly and we would love to help them as well as ourselves in gaining our fist ever female league team.
The Parkside team have shown their full interest and are keen to come on board, we will be holding a meeting with their committee soon to discuss the best ways to unite them.

We are very hopeful about this as they have already shown a huge desire to also change their team name to South Park Ladies which has been blocked in the past by our club.

If successful this would be a wondeful achievement, we would now have 1 male team, 1 female team and 2 mixed teams. The only step required then is to gain a Vets team, watch out South Park Vets we will be approaching you soon!! – lol
Sadly this step maybe difficult as our relationship with the Vets is quite a poor one but wouldn’t it be great to have all clubs at the South Park united as one. If we could over the next 2 years gain 4 stable and free running teams it would be fantastic!

Relegated!

South Park are officially relegated after a point deduction enforced by the League. This report appeared in the Northern Echo today as another decision against us was made without contacting us first. We have been deducted 5 points for failing to show at Leeholme BC, its a shame that we have been punished here for a league error. A formal complaint will be made against the League next week.

Although we are to battle agianst the league to revoke this it may be that relegation maybe a good thing this time round. We are a developing team and life in the 2nd Division may help our new bowlers. The 1st Division is currently beyond our ability and a few wins at a lower level will build confidence.

At this stage we feel a big mention should be made for the new bowlers from last season who have battled significantly and competed at a high level this year, we are proud of their achievements and improvements this year. The most improved players this year are Andy Bell, Simon Brodie, Richard Copeland and Paul Dobson, this is followed by a bowler who has made the step into one of our top bowlers in Martin Snelling.

Shock and Success!

The bowls world was shocked today with the news that South Park Bowls Clubs most successful rink was split today in our away game at Shildon BR. This was done for strategic reasons and not because their lead had a head full of magic. With Mr Bells move to the rink of Ken Wood and Scott Morland he knew he had a lot to prove. The game began well although the BR boys began to fight back. The lead was lost in the 20th end and with one end to go it was all to play for, a spectacular wood from super skip ken secured a 22 – 18 victory and one point for the SPBC boys.

It was quite ironic that Mr Bells usual rink lost on Bill Morlands bogey rink, this results in Mr Bell, age 27 from Darlington becoming the most successful player in the team. He had this to say “I’m shocked, it is quite amazing really. I guess the pressure is on now to keep on the winning side”.

The rumor is that a fight is developing to secure the services of Mr Bell for next weeks 2 important games. Theres one thing for certain his name is sure to be first on the team sheet.
