Open Day Teams

As we all know today is the South Parks Official Open Day after its lottery funding renovation project.

So far the weather looks to cause problems but fingers crossed it won’t be a wash out as the teams are as follows:-

Skip O. Harris W. Morland B. Hopkins G. Moore J. Smith
2nd V. Johnson P. Boyle P. Harper
Lead J. Weedy M. Wood A. Fawcett R. Woodward V. Wilson

These teams will play:-

Skip G. Jones K. Campbell S. Brodie G. Wright S. Andrews
2nd J. Pattinson J. Rodmell M. Snelling
Lead J. Hopkins J. Gibson T. Giles A. Bell J. Blewitt

Disappointing Opener

Our first game of the season turned out in defeat at the Brinkbuirn Dene.

There were many underperformed players this week and hopefully this will improve in weeks to come.

However despite losing we must congratulate Simon Brodie on a solid first game in the top flight and welcome Jim Rodmell who made his league debut since arriving from Yorkshire.

Next week sees us face a tough Leeholme side in which many of our top players are unavailable, however this also gives opportunities to Andrew Bell & Fawcett. Hopefully they can both impress in the aim to achieve first team places.

Disaster and Triumph for our Team in EBA Triples

Last night saw one of our EBA Triples teams go through and one go out.

Both Barry Hopkins’ & John Smith beat Scott, Bill Morland & Dave Neil.

Despite having a large lead in a poor standard game, the lead slipped giving the Hopkins rink a chance to charge home.

Upcoming Matches

This week we have an EBA Triples game on the 3rd May at South Park.

This is followed by our league game at the Dene on the 4th which is our first District League fixture.

Our EBA Top Club game will be played at 2.30pm on the 14th May & an EBA Pairs match will follow on 16th May.

EBA Coaching

Barry Hopkins is to become an EBA Certified Coach and is taking the 1st part of the course at Ropner Park on the 20th May.

We wish him all the best.

Womens EBA

From next week we should be member of Durham County Women’s Bowling Association.

This is a great opportunity for the women of South Park to improve in County Competition.

Club Merchandise

Club Shirts/Ties & Jackets are now on sale at £18/£8/£20 respectively.

Just let me know if you wish to purchase them.

Mech-Tool Knocked Out

Friday night saw a defeat in the League Knock-out.

Despite a close contest with Middleton St George, Scott Morland’s rink was hammered by Ken Storey. He took full blame as George Fenley and Richard Woodward had very good games.

Barry Snr won and Jnr was very unlucky in a narrow defeat.

Champion of all Champions!

Scott Morland reached the 2nd Round of the National Champion of Champions after defeating Martin Harrison of Houghton Dairy Lane.

Despite being slaughtered in the 1st set he went on to win the 2nd 9-0 and comfortably won on Sudden Death.
