2010 Season

Good day web folk. On Thurs 4th March 2010 we had our AGM and following this, happily we are able to confirm that we will have 3 teams, one in the Darlington And District League, one in the Sherwoods League, and one in the Durham And District League. This is excellent news after a worrying winter.  May [...]

Rained Off….

Last nights big game was rained off. Despite the green being ok at 5.30pm the rain got heavier and the game was called off.

Despite individuals being childish from Barnard Castle and calling us liars we are due to replay and BEAT them at a later date!!

Remember we have a re-arranged game at South Park next wednesday, don’t miss it!!

Day of the big game….

Tonight see the top of the table clash against Barnard Castle. A good win tonight would surely put us in a strong promotion position.

Lets hope John Embleton takes it easy on us like he did the last time!!

Last night saw a consecutive 21-4 defeat for Little Barry but this time at the hands of a top player Graham Peacock in the Lord Younger 4 wood singles.

I’d prefer him to take out these defeats on Barnard Castle tonight anyway!

CO-OP FUNERALS!!

A disaster occurred the other night for Barry Hopkins Jnr in the Co-op Cup. He was hammered 21-4 by Peter Wetherell of GPO (of all people!)

After a good practice session last night we expect him to take it out on Graham Peacock tonight!!

TOWN RINK DEFEAT….

The only news to report at the weekend was a defeat for Barry Hopkins, John Smith and Barry Hopkins Jnr.

They had a difficult trip to Shildon Railway on Saturday and it turned out to be just that as they were defeated by 8 shots comfortably in the end.

Look out everyone, the draw has been made for the fun event, it will be on show soon!!!

FATHER BEATS SON AGAIN!!!

Scott Morland and David Neil were beaten in the Cameron Pairs by Bill Morland and Barry Hopkins despite being in the lead from the first end until the second last.

The game was rudely interupted by a police helicopter hovering over the green, obviously thought it would be nice to watch the high profile match along with a slice of pizza!

Despite all the racket the game went underway and was finally given a quiet finish when the helicopter disappeared. Obviously the team they wanted to win failed so they didn’t come in to land!

Done it again!!!!

Another fantastic result last night saw us fend off North Lodge at their green 4-1. This should surely keep us in a good position along with our game in hand over Darlington RA and Barnard Castle.

Please note another change in the fixture list where we are to play Darlington RA at home on Wednesday August 3rd.

Also our fun event is to be drawn this weekend so don’t miss out, get your entries to me now, we have 19 players and would like to make the maximum 28!

AWAY THE LADS….

Tonight is another big fixture for the team as they travel to North Lodge. This green is supposedly currently the best green in the town (believe it when we see it!).

A win tonight would consolidate our position at the top of the table. With some tough fixtures coming up it is essential that we scrape at least 3 points tonight.

Please note there has been a change in the fixtures. Our home game with Rolling Mills has been rearranged to 18th August 2005.

CLUB CHAMPION!

The Club Championship was decided this weekend with 2 semis where the Morland’s played their semi-finals. Scott beat Martin Snelling and Bill beat Glyn Jones in a very high standard match.

So the Father & Son final took place yesterday and the old man sneaked it at the end beating Scott 21-15 despite being behind for the whole of the match!

Scott quotes he was F$%$@!$ lucky!

This is Bills record 6th Club Championship win, the nearest to him are as follows:-

R. Bousfield – 4 Times – Last won 1980
R. Wealands – 4 Times – Last Won 1968
T. Smith – 3 Times – Last Won 1984 (Only surviving member to this day)
R. Holdsworth – 3 Times – Last Won 1971
A. Holmes – 3 Times – Last Won 1967

KNOCKED OUT!

Unfortunately our giant killing attempt last night ended in failure. We met 1st Division opposition Shildon Railway and were defeated 3.5 to 1.5. Not a bad attempt and our worst defeat was only by 9 shots but the difference in class showed and proved that if we gained promotion, next season would definitely be a challenge.

Newsflash….

Barry Hopkins progressed in the Henderson Shield last night defeating Martin Snelling easily in the first round.

Also the Club Championship has reached the semi final with Scott Morland playing Martin Snelling and Bill Morland playing Glyn Jones.

If these are played at the weekend then it could be a father and son final. This would be the first time they have met in a final in the last 15 years.
